Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy has been a component of physiotherapy practice since early times. It includes the use of electric current in order to treat various conditions. Some of these are:
Acute/chronic pain
Fibromyalgia
Muscle atrophy
Lower back pain
Arthritis
Labor pain
Phantom pain (Nerve pain)
Knowledge of electrotherapy includes appropriate clinical decisions regarding which technique to use and when. Electrotherapy yields many benefits such as:
Better blood circulation
Tissue repair
Stimulated bone growth
Healed wounds
Body’s increased range of motion
In acute conditions, 5-10 minutes of Electrotherapy treatment may be sufficient. However, in chronic conditions, it may be necessary to stretch the treatment for at least 20-30 minutes to achieve desirable results.
