Back pain
Back pain treatment varies and depends on what kind of pain you are facing. Acute back pain treatment lasts a few days to 1-2 weeks whereas Chronic Back pain usually lasts more than three months.
There are two major types of back pain:-
Lower Back Pain: Our lower back supports the weight of our upper body and provides flexibility and mobility for everyday motions. Strain or injury caused to the lower back muscles or tendons can result in Lower back pain/ Lumbar Pain. Problems such as arthritis, osteoporosis, disk injury and structural issues can also be the reason behind constant lower back pain. Proper rest, medications, hot or cold packs for pain relief and physical treatment are required for recovery, and back-strengthening exercises are recommended for the prevention of pain in the future.
Upper Back pain: Upper back pain is not very common and it occurs typically due to long-term poor posture, overuse/ misuse of the thoracic (upper back) muscles, an injury or a bad sleeping position. Treating Upper back pain is somewhat similar to treating lower back pain however some exercises and medications may differ.
To keep back pain at bay we can do the following:
Exercise: There are many exercises that can help you strengthen your back muscles making your body more flexible and increasing your mobility. Some of these exercises include yoga asanas such as Child’s pose and Cobra pose (Bhujangasana)
Maintain a good posture: Improve your body structure by standing and sitting without slouching or slumping.
Sleep in a good position: Sleeping in a proper position plays a vital role in back pain reduction. Ditching pillows in some cases may also help in reduction of back pain.
Reduce Stress: Practice meditation, go for long walks and listen to music. Do what makes you happy and keep your stress level controlled.
